Great Plains Regional Medical Center Launches Free Community Education Series

ELK CITY, OKLA. Aug. 11, 2026 – Great Plains Regional Medical Center (GPRMC) is launching a free monthly education series, Community Connections, to connect residents of western Oklahoma with trusted local experts on healthcare and lifestyle topics. 

Community Connections will feature monthly presentations from GPRMC physicians and guest speakers covering a wide range of subjects, including health and wellness, finances, legal planning and more. Each session is free and open to the public. Snacks will be provided, and while RSVPs are encouraged, walk-ins are welcome. 

The first Community Connections session is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 19, from noon to 1 p.m. in the meeting room located at the far end of the GPRMC cafeteria at 1801 W. 3rd St. in Elk City. The session, “Expert Care for Joint Replacement: Traditional & Robotic Approaches,” will be presented by GPRMC orthopedic surgeons Grant Detten, D.O., and Riley Winham, D.O.

“Good advice shouldn’t be hard to come by, even in rural Oklahoma,” said Corey G. Lively, CEO. “Community Connections is about giving our community access to trusted information and helping our neighbors feel more confident about the decisions they make for themselves and their families.”

Future sessions will feature topics including ear, nose & throat care, women’s health, urology, surgery, community health, healthy lifestyle advice, insurance basics, personal finance, investments and legal planning.
