October session will highlight community resources and transportation assistance
Great Plains Regional Medical Center (GPRMC) will continue its free monthly education series, Community Connections, with an October session focused on connecting western Oklahomans with community resources and services.
This month’s event, “Navigating Community Resources,” will take place Wednesday, Oct. 21, from noon to 1 p.m. in the meeting room located at the far end of the GPRMC cafeteria at 1801 W. 3rd St. in Elk City. The session will be presented by Kylee Chapman, MSN, RN, Community Health Worker at Great Plains Regional Medical Center, and Jeff Johnson, Mobility Navigator at South Western Oklahoma Development Authority.
The session will highlight services including the launch of GPRMC’s FindHelp website, with information regarding local, state and national resources available to Oklahomans. Attendees will also learn more about the Transportation Reimbursement Initiative Program (TRIP), which helps residents overcome transportation barriers to access essential services like healthcare.
Community Connections features monthly presentations from GPRMC physicians and guest speakers covering a wide range of subjects, including health and wellness, finances, legal planning and more. Each session is free and open to the public. Snacks will be provided, and while RSVPs are encouraged, walk-ins are welcome.
“We want our patients and neighbors to know about local community resources available to them,” said Corey G. Lively, CEO. “Knowing where to turn can make a real difference, and Community Connections is one way we can help connect people with resources to support them.”
Future sessions are planned for topics including ear, nose & throat care, women’s health, urology, surgery, healthy lifestyle advice, insurance basics and legal planning.
