The school system has an active Foundation, which raises thousands of dollars each year to bolster state educational monies and fund special projects.
Elk City students are extremely active in sports, instrumental and vocal music, and other curricular and extra-curricular activities, and are greatly supported by the community.

The Arts
Culture-minded pioneers began the emphasis on bringing the arts to the Great Plains at the turn of the century, and that emphasis is still strong. Symphony orchestras, classical musicians and other artists regularly have a venue in Elk City, made possible by an active Arts Council and generous benefactors. Elk City also boasts one of the only community theatres in the state under professional direction, with plays, musicals and other entertainment scheduled throughout the year.
Recreation
Western Oklahoma is well known for its abundance and variety of hunting and fishing opportunities. Guest and "dude" ranches populate the area, with the opportunity for horseback riding, camping and other outdoor activities.
